When God calls someone to lead, He doesn’t pull their résumé first. He looks at the heart. That’s why Scripture is full of ordinary people—flawed, uncertain, and often unqualified—chosen to carry out extraordinary assignments.

📝 If you’ve ever doubted your ability to lead because of your past, personality, or lack of credentials, you're in good company. God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called.

You Don’t Have to Be Ready—You Have to Be Willing

Moses stuttered. Gideon hid. David was overlooked. Peter denied. Paul persecuted.

And yet every one of them was called—not after they cleaned up, but in the middle of their mess.

📜 1 Corinthians 1:27–29

27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. (ESV)

📝 The Kingdom runs on grace, not merit. Leadership isn’t earned—it’s entrusted.

If you’re waiting to be “ready” before you say yes, you might be missing the very moment God is trying to start using you.

The Excuses That Keep Us Stuck

When we feel the tug to step up—whether in church, at work, or within our families—we often respond the same way Moses did:

📜 Exodus 4:10

10 But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” (ESV)

Moses tried to convince God he wasn’t the right guy for the job. But God didn’t back down. Instead, He asked:

📜 Exodus 4:11

11 Then the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? (ESV)

📝 God wasn’t asking Moses to be impressive—He was asking him to be obedient. The same is true for you.

We say things like:

  • “I’m not spiritual enough.”

  • “I don’t know enough Scripture.”

  • “Other people are better suited than me.”

But God isn't looking for the most confident. He's looking for the most surrendered.

Calling Comes with a Cross

To say yes to leadership in God’s Kingdom is to say yes to discomfort, growth, and sacrifice. The calling is holy—but it's not glamorous.

📜 Luke 9:23

23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. (ESV)

📝 Your calling may stretch you, break you, and humble you. That’s how God makes sure it’s His strength people see, not yours.

This process is where the qualifying happens. Not before the calling—but during the walk of obedience.

The Real Qualification: His Presence

When the Lord called Joshua to lead Israel after Moses’ death, it wasn’t with a long checklist of qualifications. It was with one powerful promise:

📜 Joshua 1:9

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (ESV)

📝 The presence of God is the only qualification you need to begin.

Yes, we grow in character. Yes, we should pursue maturity. But none of that comes before the call. It grows from it.

The enemy will use your insecurity to keep you passive. But God uses your surrender to make you powerful.

Final Thought

If you’re waiting to feel worthy before you lead, you’ll be waiting forever. God calls you in your weakness to prove that it’s His strength that matters. You might feel unqualified—but if He’s called you, that’s all the permission you need.

📝 Stop waiting for a green light you already have. Step into the call, and let God shape you as you go.

Ask Yourself:

  • What fears or insecurities have kept me from stepping into leadership?

  • Do I believe God can work through my weakness?

  • What would change in my life if I truly believed I was already called?
