When we opened this series, we asked a critical question: Why does Genesis matter so much to the Christian faith?
Now we’ve seen the answer unfold:
Without a literal Genesis, God’s sovereignty is severed from His claim as Creator.
Without Genesis, the inerrancy of Scripture collapses at the very first chapter.
Without the literal fall in Genesis 3, the depravity of man has no true origin.
Without Genesis, the Gospel loses its meaning, purpose, and power.
Without Genesis, we cannot confidently trust in the reliability of the Bible from beginning to end.
Genesis is not just the first book of the Bible—it is the bedrock beneath every other doctrine. To undermine it is to erode the entire structure of Christian faith and understanding.
Why Christians Are Reluctant to Stand Firm on Genesis
In modern times, many Christians hesitate to affirm the literal truth of Genesis because it clashes with popular scientific models, cultural narratives, and the fear of intellectual ridicule.
But this hesitation reveals a dangerous compromise:
It prioritizes human theories over divine revelation.
It elevates scientific assumptions—which often change—over the eternal Word of God.
It fractures the Bible, treating some parts as myth and others as truth.
But Jesus did not accommodate cultural theories. He affirmed Genesis as truth. So did Paul, Peter, and the other apostles. If we claim to follow Christ, we cannot dismiss the very Scriptures He stood upon.
Genesis Anchors Every Major Doctrine
Consider how many foundational doctrines are built on Genesis:
Creation: God is the sovereign Creator of everything that exists.
Marriage: Defined by God as between one man and one woman.
Gender: God created humanity male and female.
Sin and Death: Both entered the world through Adam's disobedience.
Salvation: Promised immediately after the fall with the first Gospel prophecy.
Judgment: First enacted through the global flood and prefiguring the final judgment.
If Genesis is symbolic or false, all these doctrines become unstable. But if Genesis is true, our entire faith stands on solid ground.
We Stand on the Rock of Genesis Because We Stand on the Word of God
Jesus said:
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. (ESV)
Genesis is part of the “words of mine” that Jesus referenced. Standing on Genesis is standing on the Word of God itself—not the shifting sands of cultural opinion, scientific models, or intellectual trends.
Where Do You Stand?
Every believer must confront this question:
Do I believe God's Word, even when it conflicts with the world’s wisdom?
Do I trust that God told us the truth about our origins, nature, and need for salvation?
Am I standing on the rock of Genesis, or the sand of human speculation?
If you do not stand on Genesis, you will find your faith compromised elsewhere—whether in morality, theology, or the authority of Scripture itself. But when you plant your feet firmly on Genesis, everything else in God’s Word aligns with clarity, coherence, and conviction.
Final Thought
Genesis is not just the beginning of the Bible—it is the beginning of our understanding of God, ourselves, and the world. To believe in Genesis is not to cling to a relic of ancient thought—it is to stand boldly on the eternal, unchanging truth of God.
If we want an unshakeable faith, we must stand on the rock of Genesis. For in the beginning, God created—and He hasn’t lied to us since.
Ask Yourself:
Have I truly embraced Genesis as the literal foundation of my faith?
Where have I allowed cultural opinions to shape my view of Scripture?
What steps can I take to strengthen my trust in God's Word from the very beginning?
