Every empire eventually crumbles. Rome did. Babylon did. And history shows that moral decay always precedes collapse.
So how do we raise our children when the culture around them is burning down?
Do we shelter them?
Do we send them in as missionaries?
Do we retreat and pray for the rapture?
None of those alone will do. What we need is a deeply rooted, Christ-centered family culture that can stand when the world falls.
Here’s how to raise a faithful family in faithless times.
1. Build a Home That Reflects Heaven
Your home should be a counterculture. Not just a place to eat and sleep—but a refuge of peace, truth, and worship.
6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (ESV)
The family is God’s first discipleship structure. Use it well.
2. Teach Resilience, Not Comfort
Children today don’t just need safety—they need strength.• Let them wrestle with truth.• Teach them to stand for what’s right, even when unpopular.• Let them fail, fall, and learn how to get back up.
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (ESV)
3. Live What You Teach
Kids won’t follow a faith they only hear about. They follow what they see.Do you apologize when you mess up?Do you worship outside of Sunday?Do they see you read your Bible—or just tell them to?
📜 1 Corinthians 11:1
1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. (ESV)
The Bible never teaches “do as I say, not as I do.” In fact, that’s exactly what Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for:
📜 Matthew 23:3
3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. (ESV)
A family shaped by truth must be led by example—not just rules.
4. Guard What Shapes Their Minds
The culture is evangelizing your kids 24/7. Are you countering that with truth?• Monitor their media—but more importantly, disciple their worldview.• Talk about what they watch, hear, and scroll.• Don’t outsource discernment—build it in them.
📜 Romans 12:2
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)
5. Root Them in Eternal Hope
Empires fall, but God’s Kingdom stands.Make sure your children know that this world is not their home, and their identity isn’t tied to a flag, trend, or culture. They belong to Christ. Their hope is eternal.
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. (ESV)
Final Thought
You can’t control the collapse of culture. But you can build something stronger in your home.Raising a godly family in a dying empire is not just about survival—it’s about spiritual resistance. It’s raising Daniels in Babylon. Esthers in Persia. Jesus-followers in a world that rejects Him.The culture may fall. But your family doesn’t have to.
Ask Yourself:
Am I raising my family to be culturally comfortable or spiritually unshakable?
What needs to change in my home?
