Most of us have learned to pray safe prayers. "Bless me." "Protect me." "Help me."There’s nothing wrong with asking for God’s provision — but if that’s where your prayer life stops, you're missing the deeper adventure of faith. God didn’t call us to safe, small living. He called us to bold, surrendered, kingdom-shaking prayers.
20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, (ESV)
Big prayers honor a big God.
What Are Dangerous Prayers?
Dangerous prayers are the ones that:
Stretch your faith beyond comfort.
Invite God to change you, not just your circumstances.
Open you up to risk, sacrifice, and bold obedience.
Submit your will fully to His, even when it costs you.
Dangerous prayers sound like:
"Lord, break my heart for what breaks Yours."
"God, use me in any way You choose."
"Refine me — even if it hurts."
"Send me where no one else will go."
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’
This is not about recklessness. It’s about radical availability.
Why We Settle for Small Prayers
Let’s be honest: Small prayers feel safer.
They require little risk.
They protect our sense of control.
They shield us from disappointment.
But small prayers also limit what God wants to do through us.
2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. (ESV)
God’s dreams for your life are far bigger than your comfort zone. But He invites you to partner with Him — and it starts on your knees.
Biblical Examples of Big Prayers
Scripture is filled with believers who dared to pray dangerously:
Hannah — prayed for a son and surrendered him to God's service (📜1 Samuel 1).
Elijah — prayed for fire from heaven in front of a hostile crowd (📜1 Kings 18).
Nehemiah — prayed for favor to rebuild a broken city (📜Nehemiah 1).
Paul — prayed for boldness even while imprisoned (📜Ephesians 6:19–20).
None of these people prayed timidly. They prayed with expectation. They prayed with surrender. And God moved powerfully.
How to Start Praying Big
If you want to grow in bold prayer, here’s where to begin:
Ask for courage — Bold prayer starts with bold faith.
Pray Scripture — Align your heart with God's promises.
Be specific — General prayers often reveal general faith.
Surrender the outcome — Trust God’s timing, ways, and answers.
Stay persistent — Big moves of God often come after long seasons of faithful prayer.
Luke 18:1
1 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.
Big prayers don’t guarantee easy answers — but they open the door to miraculous living.
Final Thought: Dare to Pray Dangerously
If you want a safe life, you can have it. But if you want a life that leaves a mark for the Kingdom — it starts with dangerous prayers.
10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (ESV)
Pray bigger. Pray bolder. Pray in such a way that if God doesn’t show up, you will fall flat — because that’s when His glory shines brightest.
Challenge for Today: Pray one "dangerous" prayer today. Step out of safe. Step into surrendered.
Ask Yourself: Am I praying in a way that protects my comfort — or invites God’s power?
Join the Discussion: Have you ever prayed a “dangerous” prayer — one that stretched your faith or changed your life? What happened?
