The Lie of Sides
When the jar keeps shaking, the ants begin to draw battle lines.
In our world, those lines are called “left” and “right.” Each side points at the other as the reason everything is broken. One shouts for freedom, the other for justice. One cries for morality, the other for compassion. But in the noise, no one notices the same unseen hand gripping the glass.
Humanity loves tribes. It feels safe to belong to a camp, to wave a color, to have an anthem. But the Kingdom of God does not run on party platforms or slogans. It runs on truth and obedience. And truth exposes a bitter reality: both sides of every human system can be used by the same enemy.
5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” (ESV)
📝 The kingdoms of this world, every government, ideology, and movement, are not neutral territory. They can be influenced by the same spirit of pride that tempted Christ in the wilderness.
The Two Masks of the Same Spirit
The deceiver wears different masks for different crowds.
To one group, he whispers about morality, tradition, and order but twists them into self-righteousness, fear, and hardness of heart.
To the other, he promises compassion, equality, and progress but warps them into moral compromise, pride in self, and rebellion against truth.
Both are baited hooks. Both appeal to the flesh in different ways. Both lead people to worship their cause more than their Creator.
44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (ESV)
When truth is replaced by emotion or ideology, the result is the same: division, confusion, hatred, and pride. satan does not care what banner you wave if it keeps you from kneeling before Christ.
The Machinery of Manipulation
The shaking is systematic. It runs through the veins of media, technology, education, and entertainment. News outlets profit from fear. Social platforms feed outrage because it keeps you scrolling. Algorithms learn which words make you angry, then serve you more of them. The more divided we become, the more predictable we are.
Economies thrive on desire; politics thrives on fear. Both are sustained by a restless people looking for identity in things that will burn away.
14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (ESV)
📝 Evil rarely introduces itself as evil. It sells itself as virtue, progress, or patriotism, anything that convinces us to justify sin in the name of good.
The Trap of Christian Nationalism and Secular Utopia
One temptation tells believers that if they just seize political control, righteousness will return. Another insists that if religion is silenced, peace will finally come. Both are lies.
The first replaces dependence on Christ with confidence in human power.
The second replaces divine truth with human wisdom.
Both dethrone God in different directions.
3 Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. (ESV)
The Church’s mission is not to crown a party but to proclaim a King.
A Kingdom Not of This World
When Pilate questioned Jesus about politics and authority, the answer cut through every illusion.
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (ESV)
To follow Jesus is to live under a different government, the rule of the Spirit. Allegiance to Christ means seeing through every earthly banner that demands total loyalty. The true citizen of Heaven can love his nation and still know it is temporary. He can vote wisely but never worship the system.
The Real Battle
Behind every cultural war is a spiritual one. Pride, lust for power, and fear of losing control are the strings being pulled. The battle is not between conservatives and liberals, East and West, or rich and poor. It is between truth and deception, humility and pride, the Lamb and the dragon.
9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. (ESV)
📝 The same deceiver that stirs nations now stirs hearts. His goal is not simply political chaos but spiritual blindness.
Stepping Out of the Jar
What happens when someone refuses to fight the other ants? When one ant looks up and realizes a hand caused the shaking? That one becomes dangerous to the enemy.
For us, stepping out of the jar means:
Refusing allegiance to any ideology that contradicts Scripture.
Seeking unity with believers across human lines.
Exposing lies with grace, not rage.
Remembering that salvation is personal, not political.
The gospel transcends every party, nation, and system because it rebuilds the heart itself.
Final Thought
The world shouts for sides; Heaven calls for surrender. satan sits above the noise, thrilled that the Church is distracted by arguments it cannot win. But Jesus still reigns, unshaken. The cross cut through every human line and drew one eternal one: life in Him or death without Him.
When we see that clearly, the shaking loses its power. The jar is still in motion, but the faithful stand still inside it, eyes fixed on the King.
Ask Yourself:
Have I begun to place my hope in a system rather than in the Savior?
Do I allow outrage or fear to shape my opinions more than Scripture?
How can I speak truth boldly without becoming part of the noise?
