The Story of the Jar
The jar sat undisturbed on a sunlit shelf, clear glass catching the morning light. Inside it, red ants and black ants shared the same small world. They crossed paths, traded food, built tiny tunnels, and went about their lives in quiet rhythm. No one questioned the other’s color. No one wondered who was in charge. It was peace, fragile but real.
Then a hand reached in.
The jar was seized, lifted, and shaken. What had been a gentle hum of movement turned to chaos. Bodies collided, tunnels collapsed, and confusion filled the air. When the shaking stopped, the ants looked around in panic. The world that once felt safe was spinning with anger. The red ants blamed the black, and the black blamed the red. They fought to the death, never realizing that the true enemy was the one who held the jar.
That is the story we live in.
📝 The parable is simple but haunting: we fight the wrong enemy. Division blinds us to the unseen hand that benefits from our chaos.
The Modern Jar We Live In
Today the shaking is not of glass but of hearts, minds, and nations. Our “jar” is the digital and political world that encases nearly every thought we have. News headlines, social media feeds, party platforms, and corporate agendas all promise truth but often deliver outrage.
Governments point fingers. Media outlets frame narratives designed to provoke. Algorithms reward anger because outrage sells better than peace. And people, good people, turn against one another, convinced that the problem is “them.”
The shaking is deliberate. It keeps attention off the hand that is holding the jar.
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (ESV)
📝 Scripture reminds us that what we see is only half the war. Behind every cultural earthquake are unseen powers working to distort what God created for unity.
The Hand That Shakes
Throughout history, every empire has learned the same lesson: divide, and you can rule. When the people fight each other, they stop noticing who profits from the battle. In our age the tactic is refined. Division is digital, constant, and global.
Political ideologies compete for loyalty, each claiming moral high ground while quietly feeding pride, fear, or hatred. Corporations shape desires through advertising. Entertainment normalizes corruption and calls it freedom. The enemy does not care which side wins; he only cares that both forget God.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (ESV)
📝 satan’s plan is not simply to corrupt individuals but to shake the entire jar, to set humanity against itself until we destroy the image of God in one another.
The Prophetic Pattern
When Jesus warned about the end of the age, He described deception spreading like wildfire.
10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. (ESV)
This is the pattern of the shaken jar: betrayal, hatred, confusion, and cold hearts. Technology amplifies it, but the spirit behind it is ancient. In Revelation we see nations deceived, systems united under darkness, and people marked by allegiance to worldly powers instead of to the Lamb. The shaking we feel now foreshadows that greater convergence, a world seeking unity without God, peace without repentance, control without Christ.
Yet even in Revelation, Christ stands above the storm. The shaking exposes what cannot be shaken: His Kingdom.
27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, (ESV)
Seeing Through the Chaos
So how do we live unblinded inside the jar?
Anchor in Scripture, not in cycles of outrage.
Read the Word more than the news. Truth calibrates discernment.
Pray before reacting.
Outrage is the bait; prayer is the refusal to bite.
Remember that people are not the enemy.
The person arguing with you online is not who shook the jar.
Discern spirits, not slogans.
Every movement, policy, or message carries a spiritual current. Ask what fruit it produces.
Guard your heart.
Division begins internally through pride, fear, or bitterness.
📝 Discernment is not suspicion; it is spiritual clarity born from intimacy with Christ.
The Bigger War
The shaking we witness is a preview of a greater collision between kingdoms. The world is aligning under systems of control that promise security but demand submission: economic, technological, even moral. Yet the true line is not between left and right, but between light and darkness, truth and deception, life and death.
4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (ESV)
Our task is not to unshake the jar but to rise above it, to recognize the unseen hand, refuse the hatred, and point others to the only King whose rule brings freedom.
Final Thought
The world trembles because it is being shaken by forces that want us distracted, divided, and devoured. But the Kingdom of God cannot be shaken. When the shaking comes, politically, economically, personally, those rooted in Christ will stand. The jar may rattle, but the Spirit within us remains unbroken.
Ask Yourself:
Where have I mistaken another person for my enemy?
What media, habits, or voices are shaking my peace instead of building it?
How can I anchor myself daily in the unshakable Kingdom of Christ?
