At the heart of the Christian faith lies a truth too powerful to be sidelined by trends, culture wars, or personal opinions: Jesus Christ is Lord, Savior, and King. Before we can walk deeply with Him, we must first know the foundation we stand on. What we believe matters because what we believe shapes who we become.
Today, let’s lay out the non-negotiables — the core doctrines that have anchored true believers for centuries, and still hold firm today.
The Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Christianity stands or falls on the belief in one God who exists eternally in three persons:
Father — Creator and Sustainer of all things.
Son — Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, sent to redeem us.
Holy Spirit — God’s living presence within believers, guiding, convicting, and empowering us.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (ESV)
The Authority and Sufficiency of Scripture
The Bible isn’t just a helpful guidebook; it is God’s breathed-out Word, flawless and entirely trustworthy for faith and life.
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (ESV)
Humanity's Need for Salvation
We are not "basically good" people who just need a little encouragement. We are born dead in sin, separated from God, and utterly incapable of saving ourselves.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (ESV)
Salvation by Grace Through Faith
Salvation is God’s gift, not something we earn. It comes only through faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (ESV)
The Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ
Jesus’ real, historical death on the cross and His bodily resurrection three days later are the centerpiece of the Christian faith. Without them, there is no Gospel.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, (ESV)
The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit
At the moment of salvation, believers receive the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, assuring us of our adoption and sanctifying us day by day.
9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. (ESV)
The Return of Christ
Jesus Christ will return bodily to judge the living and the dead, to establish His eternal Kingdom, and to make all things new.
12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. (ESV)
The Church: Christ's Body on Earth
The church isn’t a building — it’s a people. Believers are called to gather, worship, grow, serve, and proclaim Christ together.
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (ESV)
Final Thought
If we don't root ourselves in these core truths, we risk building a faith that wavers when storms come. But when we cling to Christ — who He is, what He has done, and what He has promised — we will not be shaken.
Take time today to reflect: Do I truly believe these truths? Are they the foundation of my life — not just my Sunday mornings?
Ask Yourself:
Which of these core doctrines do I truly understand and believe—and which ones do I still need to explore deeper?
Is my faith built on personal opinions, cultural trends, or the unchanging truths of Scripture?
How would my daily life look different if I lived fully rooted in these foundational beliefs?
