Why Life Suddenly Feels So Fast
Have you noticed how quickly the world seems to move today? One week you are learning a new app, and the next week something even bigger arrives. News often travels faster than truth can catch up. Life feels like a treadmill that someone keeps turning up, and now it is sprinting beneath our feet.
This is not just about the internet being busy. It is because we are living inside what scientists call an exponential curve. That word sounds complicated, but it simply means that something does not grow in a straight line. It doubles. Humans think in straight lines, but technology grows on a curve that bends sharply upward.
📝 Imagine putting one penny on the first square of a chessboard, then two on the next, four on the next, then eight, then sixteen. By the halfway mark, you would already have over a million dollars. By the end, you would have more money than exists in the entire world. That is exponential growth. It feels slow at first, then impossible to keep up with.
For decades, computers followed this pattern. But with artificial intelligence, the curve has bent sharply upward. What once felt like gradual progress now feels like a flood.
How AI Made the Curve Go Vertical
Think of artificial intelligence like building a skyscraper. At first, each new floor is easy to add. But the taller the building becomes, the more steel, manpower, and money you need. AI is a skyscraper that just keeps getting taller, and each new floor requires far more resources than the last.
Researchers at OpenAI found that the computer power used to train new AI systems was doubling not every two years, like the old computer trend known as Moore’s Law, but every three to four months. That is like replacing your car every season just to keep driving on the highway.

At the same time, AI learned entirely new skills. It no longer just answers questions in text. It can identify objects in pictures, mimic voices, generate music, write computer code, and act like a personal assistant that completes multiple tasks in order.

📝 This is why everything feels overwhelming. It is not just one more invention. It is a flood of abilities that arrive faster than people can adjust.
The Spiritual Cost of Speed
This is not only a technical problem. Scripture shows us why speed matters spiritually.
📜 1 Peter 5:8 warns us to be sober minded and watchful because the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. A lion does not always win by brute force. Sometimes it wins by overwhelming its prey so quickly that panic sets in. The same thing happens when we let the pace of the world sweep us away.

Here are three dangers that come with this acceleration:
Discernment becomes weaker. Truth takes time. Lies spread instantly. When we do not pause to check, falsehood can feel as solid as fact.
21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. (ESV)Freedom grows thinner. Apps and algorithms now react to your choices in real time. They do not just show you what you want. They learn to steer what you will want next. It looks like freedom, but it is subtle control.
Trust collapses. When information moves faster than it can be verified, no one knows what is real. In that confusion, the enemy finds fertile ground.
📝 The devil does not need to stop you if he can rush you. Haste blinds us to deception.
A Simple Field Guide for Christians
You do not need to be a computer engineer to live wisely in this moment. Here are a few simple steps to practice vigilance.
Recognize the pattern. Technology that doubles will feel slow at first, then overwhelming later. Expect it. That way, you will not be caught off guard.
Check the source, not just the story. When you see shocking news, ask: Where did this come from? Who benefits if I believe it? Pausing for even sixty seconds can expose a lie.
Remember that ability does not equal reliability. Just because AI can do something does not mean it does it well every time. A tool can sound confident and still be completely wrong.
Build pauses into your responses. Do not let the pace of the world set your pace. Pray before posting. Think before sharing. A short pause can protect you from error.
Anchor in God’s Word. Technology changes every day, but the Bible does not. Start each day with Scripture before the flood of updates arrives.
Nun 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (ESV)
Practical Habits for Families and Churches
Start the day with God instead of screens. Let His voice be the first you hear.
Do a weekly technology check. Ask: What shaped my thoughts this week, Scripture or screens?
Verify together. Use your church, small group, or family to help confirm what is true. Truth is tested best in community.
Teach children to slow down. Give them simple tools such as asking: Who said this? Is it true? Do I need to believe it right now?
📝 Vigilance does not mean fear. It means staying awake when the world tries to lull you into distraction.
Final Thought
The Bible does not tell us to keep up with the pace of the world. It tells us to be watchful. 📜 1 Peter 5:8 is not only a warning. It is a call to live with steady eyes and clear minds. Technology may accelerate, but Christ is unchanging. He is our anchor when everything else races ahead.
Ask Yourself:
Where do I feel most rushed right now?
What is one daily practice I can slow down to test against Scripture?
How can I pause before reacting to what I see online?
